Dragon Fly in May
Found Object Art by Ruth Johnson

Found object art isn't just an art form.  It is also a way of life for me.  After 30 years of yard sales, thrift stores, rock collecting, and studying local fauna and flora, my art form has emerged at a time when recycled materials are plentiful.  Creating something out of nothing has turned into creating something new from used and discarded objects.  The talent lies in bringing those objects together to give them new meaning.  There are many raw materials that encompass found object art.  Re-found treasures, beach glass, figurines, rocks, tree bark, branches, grasses, tile, junk jewelry, coins, shells, masks, feathers, and seeds are the things that interest me most.  Each art project has its own unique challenge that must be solved before the piece is complete.  Working with mixed media is always experimental and it's been "back to the drawing board" more than once with a design.  But that's what makes this art form so interesting.  There is always something new to learn since each piece is unique. That said, welcome to the gallery and to the world of my imagination.
